HY SRENG NHEP, 75, of Lincoln Heights, California, passed away peacefully on July 22nd, 2025. surrounded by loved ones.
Born on April 5th, 1950, in Krong Kracheh (Kratie), Cambodia. Hy Sreng's life was marked by resilience and courage. In 1970, he served in the Khmer National Armed Forces and was later honorably discharged after sustaining injuries which left him blind in his right eye. Despite this hardship, he continued to live with strength and perseverance.
In 1979, he and his wife, Choeurn Svay, whom he met in 1975 and married that October, escaped the brutal Khmer Rauge regime by navigating the treacherous jungles of Cambodia to find refuge in Thailand. Their journey of survival led them to emigrate to the United States in 1981, where they settled in Reno, Nevada. In Reno he made an honest living as a deliver driver for a local warehouse. However, recognizing limited opportunities for their expanding family, they made the difficult decision to move to Southern California in pursuit of a better future.
Hy Sreng Nhep lived by the belief that "You are never too old to learn new things." - a philosophy that shaped the way he embraced life and inspired those around him.
